Sticky ginger and treacle buns

These appetising buns are ideal for teatime or anytime.

What you need

175 g self-raising flour
1 tsp baking powder
75 g soft brown sugar
50 g treacle
50 g butter
1 medium egg, beaten
40 g stem ginger, drained
40 g glace cherries, chopped

Method

  1. Preheat oven to 200°C.

  2. Put all the dry ingredients into a mixing bowl. Make a well in the centre.

  3. Place the sugar, treacle and butter in a saucepan and heat gently until melted. Add to the dry ingredients.

  4. Stir in the egg, ginger and cherries. Mix thoroughly.

  5. Grease a bun tin and spoon the mixture evenly into it. Bake for about 20 min, or until the buns are well risen and cooked.

  6. Leave to cool in the tins for a short time before cooling on a wire tray.

  7. Store in an airtight tin until needed.
