Ham and cheese pan fry

An extremely appetising lunch.

What you need

3 slices french bread, sliced diagonally
50 g butter
6 tsp cider
6 slices ham, folded in half
3 slices gruyere cheese
3 slices red peppers, sliced thinly
1/2 red-skinned apple, cut into wedges (one per serving)

Method

  1. Preheat oven to 200°C.

  2. In a heavy-based frying pan, fry the slices of bread in half the butter on one side only. Remove from the heat. Sprinkle the golden side of bread with the cider or apple juice.

  3. Arrange the ham, cheese, and pepper on top of the bread. Return the bread to the heat and cook gently for about 8 min in the remaining butter along with the apple wedges.

  4. When the bread is golden brown and the cheese melted, arrange the apple wedges on top and serve.
