Mint julep

A whisky-based cocktail.

What you need

12 sprigs fresh mint
60 ml ready-made sugar syrup
2 angostura bitters, optional
175 ml whisky
To decorate
1 sprig fresh mint

Method

  1. Place the mint, sugar syrup and Angostura bitters in a bowl or pestle and mortar. Gently pummel the mint until bruised and mixed together.

  2. Transfer to a jug. Add the whisky. Mix well.

  3. Strain the mixture into a glass frosted with sugar.

  4. Garnish with mint to serve.
