Matar paneer (Peas with cream cheese)

The best and most popular Indian dish to be made using paneer.

What you need

50 g ghee
225 g paneer, diced
1 large onion, peeled, halved and finely sliced
1 clove garlic, peeled and sliced
1 tsp paprika
1 tsp ground ginger
1 tsp garam masala
100 g canned chopped tomatoes
150 ml water
225 g frozen peas

Method

  1. Melt the ghee or butter in a saucepan. Fry the diced paneer for 3-5 min until golden. Remove from pan. Keep warm.

  2. Add the onion to the pan with the garlic, tomato and spices. Fry for 3-4 min until soft and golden. Set aside with the paneer.

  3. Add the water and peas to the pan. Cover and cook for 3 min until peas are cooked. Drain thoroughly.

  4. Return all ingredients. to the pan with the peas. Mix thoroughly. Heat through for 2 min. Serve.
