Fruity baked apples

This traditional dish is really tasty, and easy to prepare.

What you need

4 cooking apples
60 ml water
75 g-100 demerara sugar
75-100 g glace cherries, chopped
75-100 g sultanas
75 g-100 dried apricots, chopped
25 g butter

Method

  1. Preheat oven to 200°C.

  2. Wipe and core the apples. Make a shallow cut through the skin around the middle of each.

  3. Stand the apples in an ovenproof dish and pour the water around them. Mix together the sugar and the fruit and divide evenly between the apples. Top with a knob of butter.

  4. Bake in the oven for about 45-60 min until the apples are soft.

Cook's tip

To vary: Stuff the apples with a mixture of chopped dried or fresh dates, a little lemon rind and enough soft brown sugar to taste.
